Is it possible for someone in the new covenant to prophesy from another source than God?
Is it possible for someone in the new covenant to prophesy from another source than God?
It could be possible for someone in the new covenant to prophesy from another source than God, such as from their own heart, or even from a demon.
You can find evidence for that below.
Prophecies can have different sources:
It is possible for a person to prophesy from different sources:
from God,
from another god (a demon),
from their own heart.

Discerning after the prophets speak:
Summary:
Paul commanded to people in the church to discern what prophets in the church say. To "discern" can be interchangeable with "testing". Paul commanded elsewhere to be "testing" prophecies.
One understanding of what "testing prophecies" can mean is:
Examining if a prophecy is TRUE or FALSE.
The source of prophecies can make prophecies true or false:
If FROM GOD and carried by the HOLY SPIRIT OF GOD, it can make the prophecy TRUE.
If NOT FROM GOD and carried by ANOTHER SPIRIT, it can make the prophecy FALSE.
If other people are commanded to "discern" after that prophets in the church speak, then this could imply that there could be a possibility that some things that are said by the prophets in the church may not come from God (and so the source of what would be said would be another source).
You can find below evidence for that.
Commanded to discern after prophets speak:
Paul wrote "(to) THE CHURCH (of) God being in Corinth" (1 Corinthians 1:2) among whom were "PROPHETS" (1 Corinthians 14:29), as "God PLACED SOME IN THE CHURCH (AS) first, apostles; second, PROPHETS; third, teachers" (1 Corinthians 12:28).
Paul gave commandments to these prophets, such as "let two or three PROPHETS SPEAK, and let the others DISCERN" (1 Corinthians 14:29). Here there was a command to DISCERN after the prophets in the church SPOKE.
The word "discern" interchangeable with the word "testing":
The Greek word for "DISCERN [diakrinо́ 1252 in Greek]" (1 Corinthians 14:29) can be used interchangeably with the Greek word for "TESTING [dokimazo 1381 in Greek]", as for example it is written in Matthew: "You-know (how) TO-DISCERN (diakrinо́ 1252 in Greek) the appearance (of) the heaven" (Matthew 16:3) and in the parallel account in Luke it reads: "You-know (how) TO-BE-TESTING (dokimazo 1381 in Greek) the appearance (of) the earth and the heaven" (Luke 12:56).
Paul wrote: "do not be-treating PROPHECIES with-contempt, but BE-TESTING (dokimazo 1381 in Greek) all (things)" (1 Thessalonians 5:20-21).

Cleansing from every stain of spirit:
Summary:
After writing 1 Corinthians to "PROPHETS" (1 Corinthians 14:29) placed in the church there, Paul wrote to the same church in 2 Corinthians.
Paul wrote to people in the church of God in Corinth that "WE-may-CLEANSE OURSELVES from EVERY STAIN (OF) FLESH AND SPIRIT" (2 Corinthians 7:1), which may include to cleanse themselves from prophesying from another source than God, such as another spirit like Baal (which PROPHETS in Jeremiah were doing and from them a "STAIN" went out), or Beliar (which Paul mentioned by name a few verses earlier).
You can find evidence for that below.
"Stain" in Jeremiah and prophesying by Baal:
Paul wrote: "beloved, WE-may-CLEANSE OURSELVES from every STAIN (OF) FLESH AND SPIRIT, perfecting holiness in (the) fear (of) God" (2 Corinthians 7:1).
The Greek word for "STAIN" is only used 1 other time in the entire Bible, in Jeremiah 23: "from the PROPHETS of Jerusalem STAIN went out to all the land" (Jeremiah 23:15 (LXX)).
What did these "PROPHETS" (Jeremiah 23:15 (LXX)) do? It is written: "Priest and PROPHET was defiled; and I saw their wickednesses in My house" (Jeremiah 23:11 (LXX)) "and in the PROPHETS of Samaria I saw lawless deeds; THEY PROPHESIED BY BAAL, and led my people Israel astray. Also among the prophets of Jerusalem I have seen horrible (things): COMMITTING ADULTERY" (Jeremiah 23:13-14 (LXX)).
Their "STAIN (OF) FLESH" (2 Corinthians 7:1) was that they were "COMMITTING ADULTERY" (Jeremiah 23:14 (LXX)), as ADULTERY is a work of the FLESH, as Paul wrote: "the works (of) the FLESH are evident, which are ADULTERY" (Galatians 5:19).
Their STAIN was also of "SPIRIT" (2 Corinthians 7:1) as "THEY PROPHESIED BY BAAL" (Jeremiah 23:13), as prophesying can come from a SPIRIT, as it is written: "do not be-believing every SPIRIT, but be-testing the SPIRITS (to see) if they-are out-of God, because many false-PROPHETS have-gone-out into the world" (1 John 4:1).
Paul wrote to being cleansed from "EVERY" (2 Corinthians 7:1) STAIN of SPIRIT, which could include the stain of prophesying from another spirit than the Holy Spirit of God.
"Beliar" a few verses earlier:
Paul wrote "Therefore, having these promises, beloved, we-may-cleanse ourselves from every STAIN (of) FLESH and SPIRIT" (2 Corinthians 7:1) because a few verses prior Paul may have given an example of STAIN of FLESH: "do not touch (an) unclean (thing)" (2 Corinthians 6:17) and an example of STAIN of SPIRIT: "what (is the) harmony (of) Christ with BELIAR?" (2 Corinthians 6:15).
Beliar can be opposed to "Christ" (2 Corinthians 6:15) here, and was already mentioned earlier in the Bible, as another verse with the Greek word for "BELIAR [Beliar 955 in Greek]" (2 Corinthians 6:15) can be found in Judges 20, in which it is written: "Now then give up the men, (the) sons of transgressors in Gibeah, the sons (of) BELIAR [Beliar 955 in Greek], and we will put them to death, and purge out wickedness from Israel!" (Judges 20:13 (LXX))
