Prophecies can come from different sources
Prophecies can come from different sources
People can prophesy from different sources:
It is possible for a person to prophesy from different sources:
from God,
from another god (a demon),
from their own heart.
You can find below evidences for that.
From God:
A prophecy can come from God, as it is written: "no PROPHECY was ever carried (by the) will (of a) human, but people being-carried by (the) Holy Spirit spoke FROM GOD" (2 Peter 1:21).
From another god (a demon):
A prophecy can come from another god (a demon), as it is written: "they PROPHESIED BY BAAL" (Jeremiah 23:13 (LXX)).
Who can be "BAAL" (Jeremiah 23:13 (LXX))? Several chapters earlier it is written that they "were burning incense to BAAL, and were going after STRANGE GODS" (Jeremiah 7:9 (LXX)).
It is written in the Psalms that "For ALL THE GODS OF THE NATIONS (ARE) DEMONS" (Psalms 96:5 (LXX)).
From their own heart:
A prophecy can come from their own heart, as it is written: "the (ones) PROPHESYING FROM THEIR (OWN) HEART" (Ezekiel 13:3 (LXX)).
People can be carried by different spirits to prophecy:
It is possible for people to be carried by different spirits to prophecy:
the Holy Spirit of God,
the spirit of a demon,
their own (human) spirit.
You can find below evidences for that.
Carried by the Holy Spirit of God:
People can be carried by the Holy Spirit of God, as it is written: "no PROPHECY was ever carried (by the) will (of a) human, but people BEING-CARRIED BY (THE) HOLY SPIRIT spoke from God" (2 Peter 1:21).
Here the "(THE) HOLY SPIRIT" (2 Peter 1:21) refers to "THE HOLY SPIRIT (OF) GOD" (Ephesians 4:30).
The possibility for someone to be carried by the Holy Spirit of God to prophesy could explain why for example the Holy Spirit of God could leap upon someone and that person could end up prophesying, as it is written about Saul that "he comes from there to the hill, and behold a band of prophets opposite him; and (THE) SPIRIT OF GOD LEAPED UPON HIM, AND HE PROPHESIED" (1 Samuel 10:10 (LXX)).
Carried by the spirit of a demon:
The expression "DEMON" can be used interchangeably with the expression "SPIRIT (OF an) unclean DEMON" (Luke 4:33 & Luke 4:35).
It is written: "And in the synagogue there-was (a) man having (A) SPIRIT (OF an) unclean DEMON. And he-cried-out (with a) loud voice" (Luke 4:33) and then "Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be-silenced and come-out from him”. And THE DEMON, having-thrown him down into (their) midst, came-out from him, not having-hurt him at all" (Luke 4:35).
In Revelation it is written about "SPIRITS (OF) DEMONS" (Revelation 16:14).
The possibility for someone to be carried by the spirit of a demon to prophesy could explain why Paul wrote that SPIRITS of DEMONS can try to speak to someone (which could allow the person to also potentially later prophesy things), as Paul warned to not be "PAYING-ATTENTION-TO deceitful SPIRITS and teachings (OF) DEMONS" (1 Timothy 4:1)
Carried by their own (human) spirit:
People can be carried by their own (human) spirit, as it is written in the Septuagint: "the (ones) PROPHESYING FROM THEIR (OWN) HEART, and entirely not seeing" (Ezekiel 13:3 (LXX)) but the same verse in the Masoretic reads: "the foolish PROPHETS who walk AFTER THEIR OWN SPIRIT and have seen nothing" (Ezekiel 13:3 (Masoretic)).
These were carried by THEIR OWN (HUMAN) SPIRIT.
A person has their own (human) spirit inside of them, which is called in the Scriptures: "THE SPIRIT (OF) THE PERSON WITHIN HIM" (1 Corinthians 2:11).
A believer's own (human) spirit is distinct from the Holy Spirit of God, as for example it is written about the Holy Spirit of God in contrast WITH our (human) spirit that "THE SPIRIT itself bears-witness-WITH OUR SPIRIT that we-are children (of) God" (Romans 8:16).
The possibility for someone to be carried by their own (human) spirit to prophesy can be opposed to God being the source of it, as for example it is written about "the foolish PROPHETS who walk AFTER THEIR OWN SPIRIT and have seen nothing" (Ezekiel 13:3 (Masoretic)) that God then said to them: "Did you not see a vain vision [...]? Yet you say 'A statement of YHWH', though I HAVE NOT SPOKEN" (Ezekiel 13:7 (Masoretic)).
People can be carried by different spirits from the OUTSIDE or the INSIDE:
It is possible for a person to be carried from the OUTSIDE or from the INSIDE of them to prophesy by:
the Holy Spirit of God,
the spirit of a demon,
You can find below evidences for that.
Carried by the Holy Spirit of God from the OUTSIDE:
It is possible for the Holy Spirit of God to be OUTSIDE someone to carry the person to prophesy things.
For example, it is written: "(THE) SPIRIT OF GOD CAME UPON THE MESSENGERS OF SAUL, AND THEY PROPHESY" (1 Samuel 19:20 (LXX)). Here the Holy Spirit of God is described to specifically come "UPON" (1 Samuel 19:20 (LXX)) the people.
The Greek word for "UPON" [epi 1909 in Greek] used in 1 Samuel 19:20 (LXX) can be used to describe someone who is OUTSIDE instead of being INSIDE. For example, the same Greek word is used in the following sentence: "let the (one) UPON [epi 1909 in Greek] the housetop not go-down nor GO-IN to-take anything out-of his house" (Mark 13:15). Here someone "UPON the housetop" (Mark 13:15) is distinct from someone who may "GO-IN" (Mark 13:15) the house.
Carried by the Holy Spirit of God from the INSIDE:
It is possible for the Holy Spirit of God to be INSIDE someone to carry the person to prophesy things.
For example, it is written: "THE SPIRIT ENTERED INTO ME and stood me on my feet and spoke with me. AND HE SAID TO ME" (Ezekiel 3:24 (Masoretic)) "you shall set your face toward the siege of Jerusalem, and your arm bared, and you shall PROPHESY over it" (Ezekiel 4:7 (Masoretic)). Here the Holy Spirit of God specifically "ENTERED INTO" (Ezekiel 3:24 (Masoretic)) the person.
Carried by the spirit of a demon from the OUTSIDE:
It is possible for a spirit of a demon to be OUTSIDE someone and yet try to speak to someone (for the person to also potentially later prophesy things).
For example Paul warned to not be "PAYING-ATTENTION-TO deceitful SPIRITS and teachings (OF) DEMONS" (1 Timothy 4:1). This could also happen OUTSIDE of people, as an unclean spirit (of a demon) can SAY things while being OUTSIDE of a human.
Indeed, it is written for example that: "THE UNCLEAN SPIRIT DEPARTS FROM THE PERSON, it-goes through waterless places seeking rest, and does not find (it). Then IT-SAYS, ‘I-will-return to my house from-where I-came-out’. [...] Then it-proceeds and takes-along with itself seven other spirits more-evil (than) itself. AND HAVING-GONE-IN, they-dwell there" (Matthew 12:43-45). Here the unclean spirit departed from a person, and while being OUTSIDE of that person it was able to talk, as "IT-SAYS, ‘I-will-return to my house from-where I-came-out’" (Matthew 12:44), and then later it went inside the person, "HAVING-GONE-IN" (Matthew 12:45), displaying that it was away and OUTSIDE of the person before that when it was talking.
Carried by the spirit of a demon from the INSIDE:
It is possible for a spirit of a demon to be INSIDE someone to carry the person to prophesy things.
For example, there was a "servant-girl having (A) SPIRIT (OF) PYTHON" (Acts 16:16), "who was-bringing-about (a) large PROFIT (to) her masters TELLING-FORTUNES" (Acts 16:16). But once the spirit of python came OUT of her, the hope that she could continue telling fortunes went out, implying that the spirit of python had something to do with that, as it is written: "Paul, having-been-worked-up, and having-turned (to) THE SPIRIT, said, “I-command you in (the) name (of) Jesus Christ to-depart from her” And (IT) WENT-OUT (at) the very hour. And her masters, having-seen that THEIR HOPE (OF) PROFIT WENT-OUT, having-taken-hold-of Paul and Silas, dragged (them) into the marketplace" (Acts 16:18-19).
