There can be consequences of prophesying a false prophecy. For example:
- It can be sin because it can miss the mark. Sin can have spiritual consequences
- In some cases it can reveal that a demon may be inside the person, having for consequences (if not cast out) potential health issues, further temptations to sin, etc.

There can also be solutions to be restored from these consequences if they end up happening.

You can find more details below:

Prophesying a false prophecy can be sin because it can miss the mark. Sin can have spiritual consequences:

If prophesying is intended to deliver a true prophecy, then delivering a false prophecy instead can miss the mark

If prophesying a false prophecy can miss the mark, then it can be sin, as the verb "TO SIN" can mean "TO MISS THE AIM" (or in other words, to miss the mark, to miss the goal).

There is a Hebrew verb for "TO SIN" [chata 2398 in Hebrews, verb]. It is for example used here in Judges: "the sons of Israel cried to YHWH, saying, We have SINNED [chata 2398 in Hebrews] against You, even because we have forsaken our God, and have served the Baals" (Judges 10:10).

The same Hebrew word for "TO SIN" [chata 2398 in Hebrews, verb] used in Judges 10:10 can be found in Judges 20:16 to describe left handed men being so accurate with their slings that they could aim at a hair and not "MISS", as it is written: "Out of all (this) people (were) left-handed (men); all these (could) sling with stones at a hair, and not MISS [chata 2398 in Hebrews]" (Judges 20:16).

Sin can have spiritual consequences

It is possible to be forgiven for those sins, as it is written about God that "He-is faithful and righteous TO-FORGIVE US THE SINS" (1 John 1:8), under the conditions for which forgiveness can be received.

A demon may be inside the person, having for consequences (if not cast out) potential health issues, further temptations to sin, etc:

The source of prophecies can make prophecies to be false. There are several possible sources. One possible source is that the source of a false prophecy can be a demon. It is furthermore possible for that demon to be inside the person.

If a person discerned that the source of a false prophecy may be a demon (instead of simply themselves for example), and that this demon was also discerned to be inside the person (and not from the outside), then casting out the demon may be done, otherwise keeping a demon inside can have bad consequences on the person such as potentially health issues, further temptations to sin, etc.

Paul discerned such in a person, and cast out the demon, as it is written: "it-came-about (while) we (were) going to the (place of) prayer (that a) certain servant-girl HAVING (A) SPIRIT (OF) PYTHON met us, who was-bringing-about (a) large profit (to) her masters telling-fortunes. This (one), (while) closely-following Paul and us, was-crying-out, saying, “These men are slaves (of) the highest God, who are-proclaiming (to) you (a) way (of) salvation”. And she-was-doing this for many days. And Paul, having-been-worked-up, and having-turned (to) the spirit, said, “I-command you in (the) name (of) Jesus Christ to-depart from her” And (IT) WENT-OUT (at) the very hour" (Acts 16:16-18).
